You don’t like the Darlings episodes?
We were exposed to some of the best bluegrass music you’ll ever hear.
The Darlin’ “boys” were played by the “The Dillards” who were a tremendous influence on the main core of musicians who started Southern California’s country rock movement in the late 1960s. The episodes with them were tremendously important in the spread and popularity of country music in the USA and elsewhere.

Boy, it’s a real testament to the best years of television acting that these scenes can still move us 40 years later. :)

You think peace is around the corner for America?

to advanced for the world today? lol thats not the case but it is a great show- good comment.

Also the ep where Barney gets a “motorbike” and Andy gets Opie to burn a wooden note to commemorate the journey or the motorcycle.
    – Your point is still taken. Very peaceful show. A peaceful “cop” show that left us with memories. Something to advanced for the world today.

woops.. a few more for the road. for all u TAGS gurus i also thought that a stranger in town, the hobo with buddy ebsen and the one where edgar buchanan plays a handyman with smooth hands were all just solid gold. another great thing about it how they constantly blended new chracters into the show while replacing others in a seamless fashion was truly amazing. case in point helen crump, emmett clark, howard sprague replacing regulars such as barney, floyd & gomer.but warren sure was a bust.

actually, just last night i saw an episode. andy helped deliver a baby, and the father and barney were telling war stories… the father about korea and fife about ww2

yeah,ok…if u say so, i guess u got me. i think that the ones that were very early & hillbillyish i never had much patience with or interest. esp those ones with the darling family. could have real done without them but i liked ernest t bass. other than that they were just about all great with some being true masterpieces. the best of all was this class reunion, the manicurist, man in a hurry and clarence earp come to mind as i send this. arguably one of the 5 greatest comedies of all time.

The band is great. The saxophone soloist is an example of how this show created laughs even out of the minor characters.

Oh, my friend you are incorrect. Do you remember the episode where there was a Hatfield and McCoy LIKE feud? (They went by other names.) Andy said they were gonna settle their feud by each walking 10 paces and shoot? When Andy counted in French, Andy said he learned French during the WAR.

to the best of my knowledge, having watched every TAGS ever broadcast , some maybe 15-20 times a piece, there was never, ever a single mention of wwII. not once. never. i think peacefulness and tranquility were what they had in mind here and they sure hit it on the fat part of the bat, didnt theye??

  • kadjrare

ha ha ha geez get a sense of humor! :)

  • Johnny2bad

    Really. Funny. Not.

andy would have been in the first world war….opey was his illigitimate son…his mother was actually Aunt Bea. One episode hinted at this, if you listened carefully. Although Andy was interested in Miss Helen, it was known around town that Barney and Andy were actually an item. Goober, Howard and Floyd were also gay, but was not written into any story line.

Great episode.Don’t ever remember seeing it.They don’t make great shows like this anymore.

  • label1877

Class of ’45? Well there was an episode where Andy talked about being in WW2. Can anyone explain that?

  • DarkRavenII
